The Importance of the Possible

"If I were to wish for anything I should not wish for wealth and power, but for the passionate sense of what can be, for the eye, which, every young and ardent, sees the possible.  Pleasure disappoints, possibility never.  And what wine is so sparkling, what so fragrant, what so intoxicating as possibility?" - Soren Kierkegaard, Either/Or

There is so much beauty - and so much fear - in possibility.  It is Intoxicating indeed.

At some level, we all know that possibility surrounds us.  Infinite possibilities.  Sometimes, we delight in playing with them...in dreaming, in painting, in talking about "what ifs".

Sometimes, some of us even follow through on those possibilities and lift ourselves to new heights - quite literally.

But most of the time, we close off.

For possibility opens the door marked "unexpected".  We move out of our cozy, comfortable room of routine and into vast spaces of unknown consequence.

But staying in our confines of expectation benefits no one.

Possibility holds pain, yes, and discomfort and anxiety.  It also holds magic and boundless joy and infinite peace.

Yes, of course there are possibilities in life.  But what is more important to remember is that

in possibility, there is life.

Come home, come here, to this moment.  The next action, the next thought, the next hour...what is possible?

Namaste.
