Open To Trust
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of it's furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
I had thousands of thoughts running through my head this morning. I took them all with me on a short run beneath the rising Indiana sun.
The usual breathing techniques weren't working, so I simply started repeating, "Open. Trust." with each breath. I envisioned leaving any anxiety, any to-dos behind me like footprints on the pavement.
Open. Trust. Every time you sit down to create - a painting, a sculpture, a drawing. Each time a bill comes due and you have no idea from where the money is going to come. With each movement - each yoga pose or each step. Open. Trust.
We have visitors of anxiety, fear, and doubt. We have more welcome visitors of inspiration, enthusiasm, joy, and excitement. But at the end of it all, the visitors leave and we remain.
Keep opening the door.
Welcome those experiences and listen to what they have to say. Trust that they are sharing with you exactly what you need to hear.
Today I will turn to my wax and let it melt where it may. Today I will join in conversation and let it flow with what needs to be said.
Today, I open. I trust.
And I invite you to do so with me.
Namaste.
