Finding Direction: Remembering Our Song

"Thank you all for the sacred space you hold in your own lives for authentic process, to be in a healing place, unapologetically. To claim it in front of those who may not understand."

~Pixie Campbell, from this post

Moment after moment we are asked to choose.

There is a voice inside, a longing, an intuition that quietly sings direction.  We must hold that sacred, silent space if we are to hear it.  If we do not, all we hear is the chanting of fear and desire.  If we do not listen, all we hear are the voices of others telling us where to go and what to do and what to buy and how to be.

When we apologize for being in this place, for demanding silence amidst all of the noise of life, all we do is cry over our song.  We whimper, "I'm sorry for being!  I'm so sorry for being.".  Yet we must not take an aggressive journey towards the self.  It is a gentle power that recognizes this space and its importance, and keeps us returning to its embrace.  We are warriors with soft hearts.

So many do not understand.  To be honest, it often feels easier to not understand.  To take the blue pill instead of the red pill.  To remain ignorant of our truths, to ignore the song that aligns us with peaceful being, to continue to drudge along in the fight towards....what?  And yet, once you are blessed with awareness, so too are you given responsibility.  You are given a light to shine or to dim, a way to lead yourself and others, your part to sing in Our Great Song.

Losing myself in trying to explain to those who don't understand, tripping over my apologies, I have recently felt uncomfortably anxious.  Last night, I decided to pull a random card from the deck of wisdom, "Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior" by Chogryam Trungpa.  Before doing so, with a deep sigh, I asked quite simply, "What am I supposed to be doing in the world?"

"35: This very moment is always the occasion."

"The principle of nowness is very important to any effort to establish an enlightened society.  You may wonder what the best approach is to helping society and how you can know that what you are doing is authentic and good.  The only answer is nowness.  The way to relax, or rest the mind in nowness, is through the practice of meditation.  In meditation you take an unbiased approach.  You let things be as they are, without judgment, and in that way you yourself learn to be."

Sacred space, right here, right now.  Always.  Without judgment, I acknowledge my ongoing practice to return to this space, this moment -- even in the face of fear and even (albeit gently) amidst those who do not understand.

Many may be confused (myself included from time-to-time) as to why I stop to smell the flower one day and then yell at my daughter for doing the same the next day as we rush to meet the school bus.  It is all a practice, all a remembering.

I am deeply grateful to those, Pixie Campbell and Chogyam Trungpa among so many others, who have made their lives their practice, who remember so the rest of us can hear parts of the song.

May we all be so blessed.

Namaste.
