Are You Sure?

The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend. ~Robertson Davies

All that we see or seem

is but a dream within a dream. ~Edgar Allan Poe

We do not see clearly.

That's it.  That's the problem.

The solution is spoken just as easily:  See clearly.

Voila.

Ah...but to live this?  To practice "seeing clearly"?  It is hard to understand (mentally at least) what "seeing clearly" even is.  What is being seen?  Who is seeing?  And beyond all of that, how in the world would one go about this?

For now, just breathe.  The first step - as with anything else - is just awareness.

Start with being aware that you are not seeing clearly.  (None of us are.)

Our memories and even our present perceptions are clouded by ignorance.  Years of beliefs cloud our mirrors, dust of certainty gathers on the windows.  There is so much we do not know; so much we take for fact; so much we believe to be permanent.  This is ok...we are all in this same state.

For now, all I want to acknowledge is this: that we are not seeing clearly.  To remind us both that life is not what it seems.  It is not comfortable, but it is necessary if we are ever to truly experience all that life has to offer.

Live in this mystery, bathe in this wonder, experience uncertainty.

Namaste.
